Kilcoy’s own Community Radio

We are on a mission to get Kilcoy a strong FM radio signal so we are partnering with FM 101.5 Moreton Bays Own Radio Station. 

To understand why we have partnered with FM101.5, we start by explaining the benefits of having access to a community radio.

Benefits of community radio:

A community radio

• Encourages communication and connects the people of the community.
• Reaches a large section of the area it covers.
• Ensures listeners are more likely to be interested in local issues.
• Provides a positive and distinctive way to communicate with the community’s local language(s).
• Encourages the idea of two way communication.
• Is a reliable source of information during emergency situations.

 Why does Kilcoy need FM radio?

Kilcoy needs an FM signal because

• It is a reliable source of information during an emerging crisis.
• Greater community engagement will be encouraged. 
• Local news and information is good for the whole community.
• Music and entertainment is nice for the family.
• There is opportunity to learn new skills through volunteer work in the Station.

Above all, the FM101.5 signal will reach into homes with news, music and entertainment for the whole community. Businesses will enjoy a new audience to reach out to.

As a result, Kilcoy will get a reliable source of information during an emerging crisis AND we will be able to provide on the ground information directly to the station. (think floods 2011)

In addition, the Chamber’s “Buy Local” and “Why Leave Town” messages will reach a wider audience. Similarly, local community groups will have a way to promote their community efforts.

The partnership with FM101.5 is focused on two goals:

Simply put they are to

• Become a member of the Station.  (So we have access to the resources, reach and audience of the station)
• Extend the reach of the FM signal beyond the current limitations by installing a westerly pointing antenna which will give a strong signal into Kilcoy.

The Chamber of Commerce is leading the effort to bring the FM signal to our town and we believe it will bring a sense of pride and belonging to the whole community. Every local business and indeed every local community group should take advantage of this opportunity.  All you have to do is become a member of the Chamber to enjoy all that the partnership has to offer.  In other words, this is a Win Win for both Kilcoy Business and our local Community so jump aboard and support this project to help make it a reality.
